A Fish Story
A Fish Story
Brother Bill Kelso has no children of his own, but enjoys being an uncle. One of the adventures with his nephews in their youth inspired this poem.
A Fish Story
This is a fish story I’m sure you’ll believe.
So sit back, relax, and listen please.
Junior Andrews knew what had to be done,
and he moved his family to Centerton.
On one sunny Wednesday afternoon, his
kids, Donnie, Jiimmy, and Travis
didn’t have anything to do (it was
too late to start them in school).
So they grabbed their fishing poles,
and dug worms who would lose their souls.
They walked out of town to Center Point Lake
to cast on the banks where people
have been fishing since 1808.
Travis, who’s only nine, couldn’t
put the nervous worm on his hook,
and asked his big brother, Jimmy,-
put the worm on “by the book.”
They boys really didn’t catch very much,
but lots of fish got a big lunch.
Donnie, who’s 13, was successful
in his aquatic search.
He boasted of one small “Keeper” perch.
But the dark clouds rolled in,
as the afternoon hours passed by.
They felt the rain on their skin,
and quit fishing with a heavy sigh.
