Satellites

Satellites

I am a satellite, one of thousands of moons on the earth.
Like the light from the Sun, I reflect the love of the Lord
and show through my actions there is another way to live.
It is a radical concept of giving without receiving,
and loving people while forgiving them at the same time.
We travel around the world on a mission for the Lord,
and we go to the lowest of valleys to the highest of mountains
carrying the message of an inner peace of another world
beyond the one we see and hear on a daily basis.
The killing and violence of this world stops there,
and what we do in this world affects us after we pass.
Good news is that anyone, regardless of the past, can
become a new person to serve the Lord and join the
thousands of other satellites circling the earth.

Share a Smile

Share a Smile

Share a smile with me,
and soon you’ll see how
short of a time it will
take to make something
big happen.

Share a smile with me,
and soon you’ll see
a new world of
adventures full of
possibilities.

It starts with a smile
and feeling grow into
miles as we drive down
life’s crooked highway.
Maybe you’ll go away,
but maybe you’ll stay.
I need to take that chance today.

So why don’t you
Share a smile with me,
and soon you’ll see a
new world of possibilities.

Six sticks of dynamite

Six sticks of dynamite

Things aren’t going right.
My mind’s all uptight, and
I don’t have to work tonight.
I just might explode, and
maybe get into a fight.
I feel like a short fuse on
six sticks of dynamite.

My girl friend up and went away.
My job’s getting harder every day.
The repo man came yesterday,
And my cousin’s here to stay.
Can’t watch my TV anyway.

I think the sun’s too bright,
And so is the moon at night.
Too much to think about alright,
And I need to make my
Problems go out of sight.
I feel like a short fuse on
six sticks of dynamite.

Second time around

Someone has lived here before in this
smaller apartment, and I pay my rent.
The grey SUV looked great when I saw
it on the used car lot, and now it’s new.
It was to me, and six years later, the title
has cleared to me to the last red cent.
My used TV was not the latest model out,
but with cable, I have a digital view.

Goodwill and Salvation Army stores
are places where a buck can stretch,
and my couch was a grand find at a
big yard sale from around the block.
I found have found ties and coats
cheaper than brand name stores fetch.
My office chair was all alone in the
the dumpster, and didn’t cost a lot.

I claimed a reconditioned computer
laptop as I return to a degree at school.
Much of what I have had in my life
has come to me a second time around,
and ecologists have said that it is
better to recycle, to reduce and to reuse.
I was born with nothing much to my name.
I’ll go the same way once I’m in the ground.

Beggar’s Banquet

Beggar’s Banquet

Follow your dreams to the end of the rainbow
and you will be treated to a beggar’s banquet.
You can get what ever you want by asking,
and there will be more than food available.
Some will look for a pot of gold, but the
value of things depends on each person.
Others will want things they can’t touch,
and how much they take back will depend
on their amount of greed within themselves.

Everything in life contains its opposite

Everything in life contains its opposite

Everything in life contains its opposite

When you think something’s at its end,
You have just begun to start.
There are times when you have to part,
But then there’s someplace to go.
And when there is something you
Should know, you could possibly forget.
If you lose a friend along life’s path,
You can always find another, I bet.
A law of nature states what goes up
Must eventually come down, and
We all know a smile is the mere
Opposite of a sad frown.
It’s not unusual for love to turn to hate,
And if you can be prompt, changes are
That somehow, you are going to be late.
If the dark was not so dark, then the
Light would not be so bright.
The kite seems free in the winds,
But the string controls its flight.
Everything in life contains its opposite.

A Sheriff and his Gun

Filed under: New Poems, A Cupful of Words — admin @ 12:04 pm

A Sheriff and his Gun

It was Noon, Saturday, July the 12th, 1849.
After a few drinks, the outlaw thought it was time
to call the town sheriff out for a duel.
The sheriff walked away alive, loosing his cool.
Along with the pointed badge, he lost his pride,
and there was really no place to hide.

At least he still had his life, but one filled with shame.
The coward’s seal was by his name.
There was a lovely woman in his life,
and someday he wished he could be his wife.
Her name was Karla Ann Moore, and her
father owned the local feed, supply and drug store.

She offered him a simple, but complicated plan
to prove to everyone he was a man’s man.
She had talent, beauty and obvious charms.
It was so easy for him to find comfort in her arms.
She could save him from a fate worse than death.
His job as a sheriff was not over yet.

Someone had quickly taken his place, and he would
challenge the man in the next sheriff’s race.
Ms. Moore worked daily on his self-esteem, and
at the same time, make him become mean
in the eyes of those who wanted to break the law.
This was the vision on the shattered man she saw.

First, she persuaded the sheriff to make him a deputy.
This was the first step in her plan, you see.
Then the election for public officials came around,
and he spoke to the people of the frontier town.
He said he was an officer of the peace, not the gun.
He would fire his weapon if he was forced to use one, but

he was tired of explaining why he killed a mother’s son.
The people heard his reasoning, voted, and he won.
Soon he was put to the test, and other life was lost,
and his label of a coward was quickly tossed.
After the election, he married Karla Ann Moore,
and became a partner in her father’s store.

A woman had to support her only man before
he could really believe in what he did stand.

Wildfire

Filed under: New Poems, A Cupful of Words — admin @ 11:59 am

Wildfire

I am the person who starts the fires of inquiry,
the spark of wonderings and investigation.
Through hundreds of smoldering ashes,
I try to burn forests of fear and ignorance,
and I hope the seeds of knowledge will
be sown in the barren, blackened ground.

Soon, if nature takes its course, a new crop
of plants will bud and strong trees will grow.
The precious soil will be protected from
the winds of change, water damage and
erosion of successful atitudes and methods.

Some think it best to put out the rapidly
spreading flames of wildfires because
they want to to protect their lives, homes, and
their property built by keeping people illiterate.
The power over people lies in the control,
access and the uses of knowledge, and
written words can last for hundreds of years.

The First Thing

The First Thing

The first thing I want to see is your
dark hair tumble over your morning eyes.
The first thing I want to taste are
my lips gently touching your lips.
The first thing I want to feel is your
soft skin with the palms of my hands.
Thee first thing I want to hear is
your smiling mouth to say “I love you.”
The first thing I want to do with you is to
hold you close as there were no tomorrow.

Visions

Visions

A wise man said to me there
is a solution to every problem,
and answers to these questions
create a world of possibilities.
There are special people with
visions of how it all could be.
They need the support of others
who foster their faith and believe
the changes that are seen
can, with time and cooperation,
become part of our reality.
To what some thought were dreams
are becoming things we do and see.
The road to achieving success can
be a long and winding journey,
with many detours and plans and
that seem to change in the breeze.
A wise man said to me there
is a solution to every problem,
and answers to these questions
create a world of possibilities.
